This whitetail painting was inspired by an actual scene I watched unfold in the Midwest on a cold, clear November morning. This buck was locked with a doe and spent the entire morning fighting off younger bucks on the edge of a soybean field. He finally wrangled her into a small pack of cover on a dry dam where he could see challengers coming from a distance. As the sun rose, it lit them up perfectly and I knew I had to paint the scene. As a farm kid, I watched my dad and grandpa stretch farm equipment out as long as possible. There's a certain nostalgia about seeing old implements on the edge of a field, and an appreciation for one that finally reaches it's limit. So I painted an old, burnt up combine along the treelined in the distance. Hence the name, "End of an Era."
